Mission

The Beaufort Community Cat Project is an all-volunteer organization advocating non-lethal methods to reduce the free-roaming cat population using Trap-Neuter-Return.

Goals

To reduce and prevent animal suffering by stabilizing and ultimately reducing free-roaming cat populations.

To reduce the number of feral and stray cats entering the local animal shelter from eastern Carteret County.

To assist with the logistics and financing of humanely capturing and transporting free-roaming cats to a veterinarian for sterilization and vaccinations and ensuring their safe return. This applies to Beaufort, NC only.

To inform cat colony caretakers and pet owners of the importance of sterilization and vaccinations, and the availability of local veterinary resources.

 History

The BCCP was formed in August of 2006, legally incorporated in May of 2007, and holds both state and federal (501(c)(3)) tax-exempt status.

In June of 2006, a core of dedicated volunteers began humanely capturing feral cats at a local abandoned business.  It was realized soon thereafter of the need for a program to address the needs of free-roaming (stray and feral) cats in Beaufort.
